Supporting Indigenous Language Revitalization

Greetings

Our work seeks to provide support for community-led Indigenous language revitalization efforts through the coming generations – a future where Indigenous languages are healthy and vibrant, and are spoken in homes, schools, workplaces, and on the land.

We strive to raise awareness, increase support, and foster collaboration in  language revitalization across Turtle Island.

We support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and acknowledge that post-secondary institutions have an important role to play in Indigenous language revitalization.

The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed the period between 2022 and 2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022-2032) to draw global attention to the critical status of many Indigenous languages around the world and to mobilize stakeholders and resources for their preservation, revitalization and promotion.
